Taiwan¡¦s government Information Office is calling for entries for the 2009 WOW! Eye Taiwan Contest. Prizes total over NT$ 1.9 million(about AU$85,000)¡Xfirst prize is the Grand Jury Prize of NT$500,000(about AU$22,000),with opportunities to win other valuable cash prizes.

This scholarship is cooperated by National Yang-Ming University and Industrial Technology Research Institute (Taiwan). It is target to encourage outstanding international graduate students to study in Taiwan and help them to find their career in Taiwan.

03-03-09 2009 Taiwan Senior High School Scholarship for International Students is now open for application!
This program is funded by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan with the aim to increase the opportunities for foreign senior school students to experience qualified middle education and to enrich cross-cultural experiences in Taiwan, as well as to facilitate domestic senior/vocational high schools to promote their internationalization through educational exchange. Any Australian Citizen aged between 15 to 18 with an excellent academic record and of good moral character are welcome to apply.

23-02-09 2009 Huayu(Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship is now open for application!
The Ministry of Education Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship, funded by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (TAIWAN), aims to give scholarship recipients a better command of the Mandarin language, and hence a greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. Any Australian citizen aged 18 and above with an excellent academic record and of good moral character is eligible to apply.

Taiwan Scholarship Program is funded by government agencies of the Republic of China (Taiwan) - the Ministry of Education (MOE) and National Science Council of the Executive Yuan (NSC). The Scholarship aims to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. 12-02-09 Taiwanese Street Performers put on a show at the 2009 National Multicultural Festival in Canberra
Another year at the National Multicultural Festival in Canberra, and another year Taiwan has failed to disappoint in bringing a rich and colourful cross cultural experience to Australia.  This year, a small group of talented street performers descended onto the nation¡¦s capital to exhibit the fine arts of street performances with a distinctive Taiwanese flavour.

1. Through the interactions of international cultural performances, the participants can find out new ways to learn, trust, appreciate, communicate, and care about each other.

2. Through home-stays and other activities, we will introduce the cultural vigor of Taiwan's civil society to the global community while promoting an international cultural exchange.

3. Build Hsin-Kang residents a sense of community and an elevated view of the world, and make Hsin-Kang accessible for cultural and educational interactions throughout the international community.


25-06-08 Over 300 students sat the first¡Vever Mandarin Proficiency Test in Australia
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia is pleased to see 317 students went for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu(TOP) in Brisbane Sunny Bank State High School on 13 of April. Although the test was a pioneer trial test, it still attracted over 300 students from universities and schools levels with Mandarin programs as well as Chinese weekend schools who are registered with our office.

Centre for Contemporary Photograph now presents Penumbra: Contemporary Art from Taiwan from 23 May to 5 July. The art works from two young Taiwan artists Mr Huang Po-Chin and Ms Wang Ya-Hui are on display.

As the only official representation office of the Taiwanese Ministry of Education in Australia, the Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, has been striving to develop educational exchange and cooperation between Australia and Taiwan through various programs.

30-04-08 Study in Taiwan Scholarship first open to young Australian students
The "Taiwan Senior High School Scholarship for International Students¡]TSHSS¡^" program is funded and launched by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education, with the aim to increase opportunities for foreign senior school students to experience qualified secondary education and to enrich cross-cultural experiences in Taiwan. This year, 3 placements are available for current high school and college students with Australian nationality.

Applicants must submit their application form and required document to the Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia before 26 May, 2008.

29-02-08 Mandarin learners in Brisbane are invited to a free Mandarin Proficiency Test
TOP is a foreign language proficiency test for non-native speakers of Chinese. Those who wish to know about their level of Chinese proficiency, or those who want to study, work or do business in Chinese speaking countries are welcome to register for the test.

The 2008 TOP in Brisbane will take place on 13 April Sunday 2008 at Sunnybank State High School, Boorman Street, Sunnybank, Queensland.

19-02-08 2008 Taiwan Research Visiting Scholar Grant now open for applying
The 2008 Taiwan Research Visiting Scholar Grant program, funded by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, aims to promote independent or collaborative research on Taiwan-related topics by overseas scholars.
The grant invites 5 Australian academics as well as government officials in educational departments who are interested in, or have conducted, research in history, linguistics, cultural studies, political science, economics, sociology, law, commerce, management, and education in relation to Taiwan.

National Taiwan University's Department of Chinese Literature has a long history of being a stronghold for international Chinese research. In order to provide international students with an excellent environment to study Chinese, the NTU Department of Chinese Literature will begin offering a "Bachelor's Degree Program in Chinese Literature for International Students" in 2008.

12-11-07  2007 ACT Mandarin Presentation Contest Awards Ceremony
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia continued its support in local Mandarin learning in 2007 through the 2007 ACT Mandarin Presentation Contest, following the successful 2006 ACT Mandarin Speech Competition in where 9 institutions and more than 200 schooling and tertiary students took part.

01-11-07 Study Tour for Australian Year 8-12 Students
High school districts from six different cities in Taiwan have offered to accommodate Australian students to discover and experience the traditional culture of the Chinese, as well as to explore the unique attractions of Taiwan. The programs make group travel economical, educational and fun! Each Ready Made Program is organised by one of the 45 local high school districts, and comprises of intensive language instruction, a full schedule of educational exchange activities, and optional tours ranging from visits to historic attractions to natural wonders. All students from Australian high schools are welcome!

The International House of Taipei is an international cultural and educational organization. The characteristics and goals are all the same as the other world-wide International Houses: to provide foreign students or scholars with a better accommodation service.

13-07-07 The Awardees of 2007 Learning Chinese Grants of Taipei City
The Taipei City Government is offering Chinese study grant to Australian citizens and residents from Taipei's sister cities: Gold Coast and Perth. The study grant includes a monthly stipend of NTD $25,000 (AUD $925) for a maximum period of six months starting September 2007 to next February.

We are delighted to see that, Nicole Belinda Spain, an Australian citizen from Perth has been successful in applying the grant.


12-06-07 Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan ¡V Another option for Australian students

From 13 to 23 May 2007 seven representatives of three universities in Taiwan visited eight Australian universities to promote Mandarin studies in Taiwan. The delegate visit was a major breakthrough for both nations in terms of building further cooperation to encourage Australian students to learn Mandarin in Taiwan.

Upon arriving back to Taiwan from the 10-day productive and pleasant tour in Australia, Mr. Kris Vicca, Director of Language Centre from Feng Chia University writes on the title of ¡§Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan ¡V Another option for Australian students¡¨, illustrating why he believes Taiwan is the option for Australian students to pursue a studying career in Mandarin studies.


12-06-07  UNSW reports positive feedback about their study tour to Taiwan

The University of New South Wales was one of the Australian University Mandarin study group to visit Taiwan in 2006 to attend Mandarin lessons in top universities and to experience the interesting blend of Taiwan¡¦s modern city life and traditional culture.

Dr Heinrich from the Chinese Program of UNSW reports on their pleasant experience with Taiwanese locals and  the high quality of Mandarin teaching in Taiwan.
