Aim

The program is funded by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan with the aim to increase the opportunities for foreign senior school students to experience qualified middle education and to enrich cross-cultural experiences in Taiwan, as well as to facilitate domestic senior/vocational high schools to promote their internationalization through educational exchange.

Value of the scholarship

For Each recipient, the maximum payment of NTD$20,000 (approximately AUD$690) will be awarded by month, which includes:

  • Allowance: NT$6000. (approximately AUD$207)
  • Accommodation and board: NT$12,000. (approximately AUD$414)
  •  Insurance coverage and miscellaneous expenses: NT$2000. (approximately AUD$69)

“Allowance” is issued monthly to the recipients by the individual host school.

“Accommodation and Board” and “Insurance Coverage and Miscellaneous Expenses” will be collected and trans-paid by the individual host school.

Other payments, such as airplane tickets and overseas travel insurance coverage are the responsibility of the recipients (parents and guardians).

The scholarship will be calculated by the number of days recipients attend schools, if less than 1 month.

Duration of the scholarship

The duration, upon receiving the award, is six months (during fall semester from September, 2010 to February, 2011, however, if you want to leave in January before your school resumes, it is also acceptable.).

Eligibility

  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Must be a current senior high school student between the age of 15 to 18, with good conduct, above average academic performance, independent and willing-to-adjust attitude
  • Must provide a recommendation letter given by the school principal
  • Do not hold the Nationality of Taiwan nor immigrants from Taiwan;students who have dual nationality and have cancelled their Taiwan nationality can not apply for this program, within 8 years
  •  Students with fluent English ability and basic Mandarin ability will be given prior consideration

Required document for Application

Applicants must submit the below document

  • A completed application form (available on our website http://www.cultural.teco.org.au/2005/latest/scholarship_03_2009_senior_high_application.doc) with a photo attached on it
  • Photocopy of the passport or other nationality certificates
  • Photocopy of a complete academic transcript of lasted 2 years
  • Photocopy of a certificate proving acceptable levels of English or Mandarin proficiency
  • A recommendation letter from the school principal

Application deadline

Applicants must submit completed application to the Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia before 4 March, 2010

Selection procedure and time table

The Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia will select and recommend qualified candidates for further reviewing of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan to process final selection and prospective school arrangement by 10 March, 2010. Basically, the Ministry of Education will do a final reviewing process and will officially notify the Cultural Division the results by the end of June, 2010.
